Help from Home

Wherever you're from originally, it can be helpful to know about the people who can represent you in France. Practically all countries have officials working in their embassies (which exist to present the country to France, as it were), and also in consular services, which assist the countries' nationals visiting or living in France.

Paperwork and passports

Depending on your nationality, you may find that your country's consular services can provide a great deal of help for your life in France.

The US Consulate in Paris, for example, has a wealth of detailed information on its website, which is a handy guide for many issues that crop up if you're an American in the country; while the British Embassy and British Consulate in France produce "Living in France", a section of the website where articles and news items of pertinence or interest to UK residents in France are published. AngloINFO has an INFOrmation Page devoted to Citizen Guides: France which can point you towards these and other resources from various consulates.

Find the contact information of your nation's consular representative in the Consulates & Embassies category of The AngloFILE. From issuing a replacement passport to assisting with the registration of a birth, you may be surprised by how much help you can get!
