If I Had a Hammer

Just about everyone - even those renting a furnished property or living in a newly-built home - can feel the need for a change in environment, or a simply an urge to freshen the place up. While many home improvements can by done DIY, other jobs may need architect plans, buildings approval and the help of a contractor.

Something for everyone

France has excellent retailers that specialise in selling materials and tools for DIY home improvement. See the Shopping & Style section of The AngloFILE, AngloINFO's online Yellow Pages of English-speaking businesses in the region.

Slightly more complex jobs - putting in a window, moving a wall, say - may need the help of an artisan specialising in a certain area (woodworking, tiling, flooring, piping or cabling...).  See the Building & Renovation and Electricians & Plumbers categories of The AngloFILE for local English-speaking specialists.

And then, of course, if you have bigger plans that involve major structural changes or additions, the odds are high that you will have to engage an architect, submit plans for approval, and hire a team of builders and a site manager. If you are looking to undertake a project on this scale, you can find professionals in The AngloFILE, of course, while AngloINFO also has INFOrmation Pages to help you on your way:

Finally, if you're seeking renovation inspiration, why not have a look at the Home & Garden titles in AngloINFO's online Bookshop?
