Am about to buy a Kindle. Does anyone have any comments or advice about the Touch 3g which is the one I am thinking about?

Thanks

Jane

Just buy the lastest one, not 3G is essential, also register it to amazon.com not fr if your book list is going to be in English, you can change the parametres on yr amazon account page. also buy a cover, there are some good ones with an integrated light, but not cheap. They aren't back lit sadlyLove my kindle

Thanks for your reply. Amazon said that 3G was really necessary. Are you saying you don't think so? What if I want to buy a book when i am away from home?

It does not have Wi-Fi? Looks like it does, so you walk into any McDos or cafe and purchase your book.

It depends on your lifestyle, but wherever you go there is a chance you will be in an internet zone at some point, airports, hotels etc;I always load on books that are on promo, or free, or recommended, so have a big library of books waiting for me to have (sadly unavailable) spare time !

Hi...the 3G is really worth it if you are not always in an area with wi-fi connectivity. I have the Kindle keyboard with 3G/wi-fi ability, and I love it (have been a Kindle addict since the first one!) You can get 10's of thousands of books in english (and other languages) on the amazon.fr site if you live in France and use a French bank card. They also run daily specials at 0,99 or so, and offer most of the same free-or-almost as does the amazon.com site. Remember that ebooks are taxed here, so sometimes the prices are a few cents more. I have about 500 items in my Kindle....one of the joys of being retired is that I can read whenever I feel like it!

I love my kindle. I got it a year or so ago when I was on a long trip and the weight of books was an issue. Wouldn't be without it now, no need for the 3G as the regular one works where you can get wi-fi. Usually I load up a few books at a time so I can dip into a selection. A good idea to start with is to register with www.ereaderiq.co.uk so that you get sent a list of the top 25 free books every day. A lot of them are dross but there is the occasional good read in there, and you discover new authors at no cost.

You either love or hate it and getting used to the screen doesn't take long. I have the cover with the integral light and I can read at night without disturbing my partner. A light does shorten the battery life, but I can still use it for about three weeks without charging the battery. Works well in sunshine too.
