Three Mac laptops to a Livebox?

Grumpy writes in Home & Garden

On the back of the Livebox there are two buttons: I seem to remember that when I got a second Mac I had to press button number 2 before it would accept the new machine via WIFI. How about making the Livebox available to three Macs via WIFI? Do I need to cancel one of the previous two?
Merci d'avance.

Hi,

There is absolutely no problem in having three or more computers associated with a Livebox. Having to press the button when connecting a new machine is purely a security measure to prevent outsiders from using your WiFi (it is easily spoofed, though, so don't count on it).

The Livebox with 2 buttons on the back is the old Inventel model. To get the WiFi into association mode for that model, you need to push button 1 until the WiFi lamp flashes.

Thanks, chaps.
I did the deed as suggested by CL and the iPad connected. At first I got it wrong because I didn't try to connect until the flashing had stopped! Then I tried again during the flashing and all was well.
Renewed thanks for your support and advice.

My network is working fine with the MPB and occasional use of the iPad. But another question, please.
According to "Network" in my "System Prefs", I'm using WPA. Does this still apply now that I'm in "association mode"? And can my Inventel Livebox be changed to WPA2 without risking a right old pagaille?
Merci d'avance.

Hi,

Association mode is only active for a few minutes after pressing the button - when the WiFi indicator stops flashing the Livebox stops accepting new connections. That's all it does, and as such has nothing to do with the connection security/encryption used (WEP, WPA or WPA2).

Changing the encryption to WPA2 will simply require you to reconnect all equipment that uses the WiFi.
I don't believe the Inventel supports WPA2, however, but have a look in it's settings anyway since it's a good idea to change if possible.

Cheers

Thanks again for your help and the explanation of association mode.
Things are OK but I may pop up again with another query in due course.
