Types of Search:

• The standard search of The AngloFILE (the Search box you get on most of The AngloFILE's pages) looks for ALL your search terms. This is also the default type of search on this page. So the following search:
  
  will give you those documents that contain the words "planes" AND "trains" AND "automobiles".
   
  
• You can also use this page to search for ANY of your search terms, so the following search:
  
  will give you those documents that contain the words "planes" OR "trains" OR "automobiles".
   
  
• Finally, you can use this page to search for an EXACT PHRASE. In this instance, the following search:
  
  will only return those documents that contain the phrase "planes trains automobiles".
   
  
• Please note that The AngloFILE performs a case-insensitive substring match, which means that this search:
  
  will return those documents that contain the word "plan", and also those that contain the words "PLANNING", "planes", "Planet" and "masterplan" (for example).
  
  Please also be aware that any search phrase must contain a minimum of TWO characters.

Using Phrases

• If you put part of your search term in double quotation marks then The AngloFILE will treat that as a complete phrase. This means you can use the standard Search box to perform an exact phrase search, just be entering something like:
  
  However, phrases can be combined with other search terms as a way of making your search more speciific than the standard searches yet less restrictive than the exact phrase search. For example:
  
  will find all documents that contain the phrase "planes trains" AND the term "automobiles".

Accents

• To be compatible with the maximum number of searches, The AngloFILE does not use accents in its listings - those using non-French keyboards will find them slow and annoying to type. However, you're welcome to use accents in your search term - the search engine will simply strip them out!
